Advances in Quantitative Trait Locus Mapping
نویسنده
چکیده
The mapping of loci underlying variation in quantitative traits is proving to be a powerful tool in genetic studies of animals and other organisms. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping in crosses between genetically diverse lines has shown the presence of many QTL, as similarly have studies within livestock populations. Although much remains to be done with this type of analysis, higher resolution studies are needed to move towards cloning QTL. In amenable species, advanced intercrosses or backcrossing can be used to hone the resolution of mapped QTL. The development of new marker technologies will allow higher density maps to be produced than previously. Such high-density maps will have application for linkage disequilibrium mapping in appropriate populations.

QTL mapping of heading date and plant height in Barley cross “Azumamugi”דKanto Nakate Gold
To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) controlling heading date and plant height, ninety nine F13 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from barley cultivars Azumamugi × Kanto Nakate Gold cross were evaluated. The field trails were conducted at randomized complete block design with two and three replications in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Significant differences and transgrassive segrega...

متن کاملThe future of mouse QTL mapping to diagnose disease in mice in the age of whole-genome association studies.
Genome-wide association analysis is emerging as a powerful tool to define novel genes and molecular pathways involved in susceptibility to human complex disorders. However, in spite of recent successes, this approach is not without its limitations, the most notable of which is inconsistent phenotype penetrance due to varied environmental exposures. Mouse models do, however, circumvent some of t...
متن کاملQuantitative Trait Locus and Genetical Genomics Analysis Identifies Putatively Causal Genes for Fecundity and Brooding in the Chicken.
Life history traits such as fecundity are important to evolution because they make up components of lifetime fitness. Due to their polygenic architectures, such traits are difficult to investigate with genetic mapping. Therefore, little is known about their molecular basis. One possible way toward finding the underlying genes is to map intermediary molecular phenotypes, such as gene expression ...
متن کاملQuantitative genetic variation: a post-modern view.
It has become commonplace to map individual quantitative trait loci (QTL) in experimental organisms; the means (line-crosses and dense maps of markers) and motivation (the close relationship between continuous physiological traits and common, complex diseases) are self-evident. Progress in mapping human QTL has been more gradual, an inevitable consequence of genetic mapping in a natural populat...
